Shrimp farmers in the country will now be able to access information on international prices for two varieties of shrimps over SMS by sending a missed call to a specified number.

Farmers can also get expert guidance on aquaculture of shrimp through a mobile-App `m-KRISHI Aqua Service’ which would be based on analysis of data such as the weather, productivity and feed provided by the farmer.

Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman launched both the e-governance initiatives developed by the Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA), the nodal agency to promote export of marine products from India.

The facility for shrimp price information over SMS would provide price information for Black Tiger (+918590200800) and L Vannamei (+918590100800) varieties at major markets such as Japan, USA and the EU to farmers on receiving a missed call from them.

“The price information to farmers will provide them the current market trends enabling them to take informed decisions on harvest of their produce,” MPEDA chief Leena Nair said addressing a press briefing. The facility is free of charge.

The `m-KRISHI’ app will help shrimp farmers in stocking, pond management, feed and water test management and sampling in addition to providing weather forecast and graphical records.

The app will also help in farm digitisation of data and lead to a paperless office. Cumulative data reports would be available in text, table or graph forms that can be seen anytime at any place and help in quick decision making, according to a note prepared by MPEDA.
