The Soyabean Processors Association of India (SOPA) has revised the production estimates upward by nearly 300,000 tonnes to 11.93 million tonnes, as it expects better output in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.
Earlier this month, SOPA had projected the production at 11.65 mt in the kharif season of the 2011-12 crop year.
Madhya Pradesh — country’s largest soyabean producer — is likely to produce 6.17 mt against the first estimate of 6.16 mt.
In Maharashtra, another major producer, on the back of higher yield due to bold and bigger size of the grain, the revised estimate stands at 3.84 mt against the earlier estimate of 3.56 mt, it added.
Output in Rajasthan is expected to remain unchanged at 1.24 mt.
The Indore-based body’s revised estimate of 11.93 mt is 5 per cent lower than the government’s forecast.
According to the first advance estimates released by the Agriculture Ministry last month, soyabean output is pegged at 12.57 mt in the kharif 2011-12 crop year (July-June).
