India’s soyameal exports declined 7 per cent to 1.65 lakh tonnes in August 2011.
The country had exported 1.77 lakh tonnes in August 2010, the Indore-based Soyabean Processors Association of India (SOPA) said in a statement.
In the first five months of the current fiscal, shipments of soyameal, which is used as animal feed, rose 64 per cent to 9.02 lakh tonnes from 5.51 lakh tonnes in the same period of the 2010-11 fiscal.
Meanwhile, during October 2010 to August 2011 — current oil year period — soyameal exports jumped 90 per cent to 39 lakh tonnes from 20.56 lakh tonnes in the same period of the previous year.
India exports soyameal to Japan, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia and China among others.
According to the government data, the country is estimated to have harvested a record 12.65 million tonnes of soyabean in July 2010-June 2011 crop year.
