Tea Board members from South India have urged the Chairman to take steps to fix the minimum support price for green leaf of Nilgiris small growers immediately.
“This is required as per the verdict of the Madras High Court delivered on Oct 12. We are concerned about the tardy progress of this issue.
We have urged the Chairman to convene a special meeting with the members form the South to take specific action on this and other pending issues”, Board Member S. Ramu told Business Line . He said that a communication has been sent to the Chairman by Vice-Chairman Koshy Baby, Member of Parliament P. Viswanathan, members, P.V. Balachander, A.K. Mani, Chitra Ramesh, and himself.
“The pending issues include strengthening small tea grower societies, introducing organic and green tea in small grower sector, creating mini tea factories, launching special scheme for rejuvenation pruning and replanting”, he said.
