Despite increased arrivals, prices of several tea varieties were lower at the Kochi Tea auction. In sale no 4, the quantity on offer in CTC dust varieties was 12,61,500 kg, showing an increase compared to last week.
With a fair demand, the market for teas which came under the selection of some leading companies barely remained steady.
Others were irregular and lower by ₹2 to ₹4 and sometimes more with the progress of the sale.
However, the decline in price was less for low medium and plainer varieties. There was a better export enquiry on medium and plainer varieties, the auctioneers Forbes, Ewart & Figgis said.
The quantity on offer for Orthodox grades was lower at 14,500 kg. The market for primary grades remained steady, while others were irregular and lower, witnessing withdrawals.
In Cochin CTC dust quotation, good varieties quoted ₹91-148, mediums fetched ₹70-106 and plain grades stood at ₹55-68.
Good demandThe demand was good for leaf varieties with 175,000 kg on offer in Orthodox grades.
The market for Nilgiri Brokens, Whole Leaf was dearer with longer margins of ₹5 to ₹10 following quality.
With 105,000 kg on offer, CTC grades market was irregular and lower. There was a fair demand from exporters and upcountry buyers.
In the dust category, Rockwood SFD quoted the best prices of ₹150 followed by Mayura SFD at ₹149. In leaf grades, Chamraj FOP fetched the best prices of ₹387 followed by Chamraj FOP-S (green tea) at ₹333.
