Weak demand from Kerala loose tea traders and some blenders coupled with low arrivals due to summer has impacted tea prices at the Kochi auction in sale no 11 this week.
The quantity on offer in CTC dust was 9,44,000 kg, showing a decrease compared to last week's levels.
The market for Select Best barely remained steady. Others were irregular and lower by ₹2 to ₹5 and more, as the sale progressed. Upcountry demand was also subdued for several varieties, auctioneers Forbes, Ewart & Figgis said.
However, AVT continued to be active on Good Liquoring teas along with State Civil Supplies Corporation.
Demand for Orthodox dust was also low at 5,500 kg with the market witnessing some withdrawals. A small quantity was absorbed by upcountry buyers and exporters.
In Cochin CTC dust quotation, good varieties quoted ₹85-141, mediums fetched ₹75-110, while plain grades stood at ₹54-70.
In leaf sale, the quantity on offer in Orthodox grade was 72,000 kg with 84 per cent getting sold. Small brokens were firm to dearer following quality. Exporters lent a fair support.
The market for CTC leaf was irregular and lower by ₹2 to ₹5 and witnessed lot of withdrawals. The quantity on offer was 73,500 kg with exporters and upcountry buyers covering the quantity sold.
In the dust varieties, Waterfall (prm) SFD quoted the best prices of ₹142 followed by both Sirikundra SFD and Parajulie SFD at ₹139 each.
In leaf grades, Chamraj FOP (S) Green Tea fetched the best prices of ₹361 followed by Chamraj FOP at ₹301.
