Despite low arrivals, prices of some varieties of tea moved up at Kochi tea auction. Good liquoring and popular marks in CTC dust category remained firm to dearer.
The quantity on offer was 11,71,500 kg with 87 per cent sold out in sale no 5. However, others were irregular and lower by ₹2 to ₹3 and sometimes more. The decline in prices was less for medium and plainer varieties, auctioneers Forbes, Ewart & Figgis said.
Though upcountry buyers lent fair support, better enquiry was noticed from exporters.
Arrivals were low for Orthodox grades at 9,500 kg against last week's levels. The market for primary grades was dearer.
In Cochin CTC dust quotation, good varieties quoted ₹93-151, mediums fetched ₹70-108 and plain grades stood at ₹55-68.
In the leaf category, the quantity on offer in Orthodox grades was 160,500 kg, which was low compared to last week. Nilgiri bolder brokens, and whole leaf were steady to firm and sometimes dearer following quality.
However, the demand for CTC grades was fair. Good liquoring teas barely remained steady and tended to ease. Others were lower and witnessed heavy withdrawals due to low bids or lack of bids.
In the dust category, Mayura SFD quoted the best prices of ₹152 followed by Manjolai SFD at ₹150. In leaf varieties, Chamraj FOP fetched the best prices of ₹401 followed by Glendale OP (S) at ₹350.
