The big western disturbance has cleared out bringing its wake colder winds and also fog to parts of North-West India.

Northwesterly to westerly winds are prevailing over Gangetic plains, an India Meteorological Department (IMD) update said.

SWITCH BACK

A weather-driving trough persisted over South-West Bay of Bengal, as part of an easterly wave entourage. Climes over North-West will switch back to being wet and snowing with the expected arrival of a fresh system in next two days.

The IMD expects fog/shallow fog to cover parts of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and north Rajasthan on Tuesday morning.

Rain or snow may over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on Wednesday and increase, thereafter.

This is due to the arrival of the incoming western disturbance, which would bring back showers also to Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and North Rajasthan.

MERCURY DIP

A slight fall in minimum temperature is expected over North-West, central and East India ahead of the arrival of the system.

Thundershowers are forecast over north-eastern States during next two days from remnant moisture from predecessor disturbance.

In the South, lingering activity of an easterly wave will bring showers over Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Lakshadweep.

An extended outlook said rain or snow would occur at many places over western Himalayan region during the weekend on Friday and Saturday.

HAILSTORM LIKELY

Thundershowers may break out over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, North Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh with hailstorm at one or two places. During the 24 hours ending Monday morning, rain or snow fell over parts of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Uttarakhand.

Rains broke out over north eastern States, West Bengal, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Lakshadweep.

It rained also at a few places over East India in Odisha, Jharkhand, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Delhi.
