Thunderstorms and hail are rolling out as if from assembly line over many parts in the North and South of the country.

This is due to active interaction between two aggressive weather systems from either side of the geographical median.

DISTURBED WEATHER

Unusually for this time of the year, Central India and adjoining peninsula may witness most disturbed weather regionally for a day or two.

Heavy rain/snowfall would lash Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand for next two days.

Thunder squall and/or hailstorm have been warned over Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.

Similar forecast is valid also for Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Vidarbha, Telangana, Bihar and Chhattisgarh.

A heavily endowed western disturbance from North India is digging into South to interact with an easterly wave passing through Bay of Bengal, Sri Lanka, Tamil Nadu.

TROUGH FORMS

The animated states of the two weather systems have thrown up a ‘trough’ from South East Arabian Sea all the way up to South Rajasthan.

This kind of a ‘bridge’ formation connecting the sea in the southwest to the extreme northwest of the country is rare for this time of the year.

This bridge is topped off with a cyclonic circulation over South Rajasthan, which is expected to deepen into a low-pressure area.

Now, this is the second strong weather system materialising in as many weeks as part of a western disturbance in the country’s northwest.

LOW PRESSURE

Only the last time, the ‘low’ in the area had deepened into a ‘western depression,’ another rarity, generating lot of weather.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that the incoming western disturbance would interact with the amplified wave from South.

This would induce the formation of a ‘low’ over South Rajasthan and adjoining Gujarat, which would subsequently move eastwards over to Madhya Pradesh.
