Spot turmeric prices increased on Erode markets on Thursday on the back of fresh upcountry orders.
“The buyers showed interest in procuring quality turmeric and quoted higher price for the fine varieties to fulfil their committed upcountry orders. The arrival of new crop is slowly increasing and on Thursday all the 70 bags of new crop that arrived were sold,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
The price of the local finger turmeric was up from ₹100 to ₹600 a quintal due to arrival of quality turmeric. The price of the new crop finger turmeric gained ₹300.
At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,002-8,279 a quintal; the root variety ₹4,632-7,411.
Salem Hybrid: The finger turmeric went for ₹6,419-8,809 and the root variety ₹6,032-7,899.
New Turmeric: The finger variety was sold at ₹6,329-7,817; the root variety ₹5,817-7,464.
At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric fetched ₹6,709-7,919 and the root variety ₹6,469-7,469.
At the Gobichettipalayam Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric traded at ₹7,099-8,039 and the root variety ₹6,040-7,499.
