Cumulative tea production in the country rose to 103.61 million kg from 92.20 mkg, marking a gain of 11.41 mkg or 12.38 per cent

A volume of 13.39 lakh kg has been catalogued for Sale No: 21 of Coonoor Tea Trade Association scheduled for Thursday and Friday.

This is as much as 2.35 lakh kg less than last week’s offer and is among the lowest volumes of the past many months.

Of the 13.39 lakh kg offered, as much as 12.14 lakh kg belongs to CTC variety and only 1.25 lakh kg, orthodox variety.

In the leaf counter, only 75,000 kg belongs to orthodox while 7.70 lakh kg, CTC. Among the dusts, only 50,000 kg belongs to orthodox while 4.44 lakh kg, CTC. In all, 8.45 lakh kg belongs to Leaf grades and 4.94 lakh kg, Dust grades.

No CTC tea could enter the high-price bracket of ₹200 a kg last week. Pinewood estate topped the Dust auction and the entire CTC market fetching ₹176 a kg. Darmona Estate topped the CTC Leaf auctions at ₹171 a kg.

Quotations with the brokers indicated ₹86-90 a kg for plain Leaf grades and ₹112-118 for the best grades. For plain Dust grades, they ranged ₹84-90 and for the best grades, ₹116-122.
