The wet and occasionally windy and thundery spell in most parts of north-west India may continue variously into the week and weaken from the weekend, says the US Centre for Climate Prediction.
The causative western disturbance, which had ‘whitened up’ Afghanistan and north Pakistan and killed hundreds in avalanches, has let off storm significantly as it prepares to enter northwest India.
From these heights, it has rolled down a potent cyclonic circulation over south Rajasthan and adjoining Gujarat. It is ensconced within the parent western disturbance that has dipped low into central Arabian Sea.
Moist winds whipped by it from the sea are blowing straight into easterly winds over land.
What this has done is bring to bear the wet, windy and thundery weather to the central parts of India, and, through varied extension of ‘limbs,’ to the east coast of India and parts of peninsular India. This has translated into a rare weather topped up by snow and hail over north, north-west, west and central India even as locally high winds adds to its occasional violent behaviour.
