The All India Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW) for August increased by one point and stood at 194. The CPI was calculated on base 2001=100. The indices for six major centres in August are: Mumbai at 195, Bangalore at 194, Kolkata at 192, Ahmedabad at 191, Delhi at 178 and Chennai at 172, according to a Labour Ministry release here on Friday.
During August, the index recorded highest increase of nine points in Amritsar, mainly because of increasing prices of rice, wheat atta, fresh milk, onion, vegetable & fruit items, readymade tea, kerosene oil, electricity and so on.
The All-India (general) point-to-point rate of inflation for August stood at 8.99 per cent compared with 8.43 per cent in July. Inflation based on the food index stood at 7.33 per cent in August, compared with 6.25 per cent in July.
