The Finance Ministry has imposed definitive anti-dumping duty on barium carbonate imports from China. This duty will be valid for five years, unless revoked earlier.
Barium carbonate, an inorganic chemical in the form of white powder or granules, finds application in purification of brine solution in caustic soda industry.
It is also used in production of hard ferrite ring magnets, television glass shell, lamps and manufacture of heavy clay ceramic products.
Based on the recommendation of the Designated Authority in the commerce ministry after a sunset review, the revenue department has imposed definitive anti-dumping duty of $ 96.94 per tonne on barium carbonate exported by Hunan Wanfeng Chemical Co Ltd, China. For all other producers and exporters from China, the anti-dumping duty has been pegged at $ 144.82.
Small Scale Barium Manufacturers Welfare Association had on behalf of Solvay Vishnu Barium Pvt Ltd and Ellak Chem Industries (India) Pvt Ltd filed the petition seeking sunset review investigations on barium carbonate imports from China.
