Power distribution companies in Andhra Pradesh have filed their annual revenue requirement projections with the Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission, hinting at steep tariff hike for the next financial year.

Proposals include tariff hike for industrial consumers to Rs 7.59 a unit from Rs 7.25.

The regulator will hereafter hold public hearing and after considering all aspects of the sector, including power generation, demand-supply gap and likely funds required for additional purchases, will arrive at the final tariff order to be applicable from April 1 to March 31, 2014. The distribution companies have indicated at significant change for domestic consumers with consumption of 200 units and above.

The overall gap now at about 50-60 million units a day against demand of 270-plus million units a day is projected to shoot up significantly during summer.
