Argentina has assured India that it will resolve the issue of restrictions on import of Indian drugs to the Latin American country.

The Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Mr Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, had raised the issue during his bilateral meeting with the Minister of Industry, Argentina, Ms Debora Giorgy, at Buenos Aires on Tuesday.

Ms Giorgy said that Argentina would purchase drugs worth $150-200 million from Indian companies.

“The Indian pharmaceutical industry is among the world's largest and most developed. Increased market access of Indian products can benefit both the countries,” Mr Scindia said. He also highlighted the difficulties for Indian businessmen to obtain Argentine visa.

Mr Scindia said the visa issue should be resolved soon to boost bilateral trade and investment between the countries. “There is a need to introduce a new element in bilateral relationship: people to people, along with government-to-government and business-to-business,” he said.
