The Board of Approval for Special Economic Zones headed by the Commerce Secretary, Mr Rahul Khullar, is scheduled to meet on July 22 to discuss matters like setting up new SEZs in the country.
“The 47th meeting of the BoA for SEZs shall be held on July 22,” the Commerce Ministry said.
Development Commissioners have been asked to forward the proposals regarding SEZs along with their comments at the earliest so that they could be placed before the meeting, it said.
The BoA at its last meeting on May 31, gave extra time to 60 Special Economic Zones developers to execute their projects. The developers include Reliance Haryana SEZ, Cognizant Technology, Parsvnath Group and Mahindra and Mahindra.
The 19-member inter-ministerial board had also allowed the denotification of an IT/ITeS SEZ of Satyam Computer Services at Visakhapatnam.
Exports from SEZs increased by 43 per cent to Rs 3,15,868 crore in 2010-11 over the same period previous fiscal. A total of 6.76 crore employment was also created.
