Two more board members of the AMRI Hospitals Ltd — Dr Mani Chhetri and Dr Pranab Dasgupta — were arrested and produced in court on Friday in connection with the tragic fire at hospital's Dhakuria unit on December 9. Dr Chhetri is the Managing Director of the AMRI's Dhakuria unit.
Ms Damayanti Sen, joint Commissioner of Police, said, “Documentary evidence suggests that both Dr Chhetri and Dr Dasgupta were involved in the day-to-day operations of the hospital.” The city police will also interrogate the government-nominated directors on AMRI's board to assess their involvement in the day-to-day operations of the hospital, she said.
Dr Chhetri and Dr Dasgupta have been remanded to police custody till February 2 by a city court.
With this, 13 people have so far been arrested in connection with the AMRI fire which claimed lives of over 90 people, mostly patients.
The arrested include six directors of AMRI Hospitals, an executive director and two employees. One of the arrested directors is under arrest and currently admitted to a state-run hospital.
