The historic Qutub Shahi tombs here will now get a face-lift. They will receive aid as part of a Central scheme announced in the Budget on Saturday.
The tombs, the resting place of the seven kings who ruled Golconda during the 16{+t}{+h} and 17{+t}{+h} centuries A.D., are among the 25 monuments to be provided basic infrastructure as part of a heritage conservation initiative.
Interestingly, the focus on conservation of these tombs is also in tune with Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s special interest in heritage and culture. The Independence Day celebrations of Telangana were held at Golconda Fort after the formation of the State last year.
The Qutub Shahi tombs showcase the Deccan style of architectural as evolved under the Bahamanis besides influence of the Indo-Islamic architecture. The tombs are considered among the must-see monuments in Hyderabad and attract both domestic and foreign tourists.
