Mobile phones will become more expensive as the Finance Minister has increased the customs duty from 15 per cent to 20 per cent. The move is perhaps aimed at encouraging phone makers to start making the devices in India. However, the increase in the duty may not have the desired impact as most of the phone makers bring components into the country and assemble it here in India. The increase in duty comes at a time when the consumers are looking to use more data services.
