The West Bengal Finance Minister and Chairman of the Empowered Committee of State Finance Ministers on Goods and Services Tax, Amit Mitra, called the Union Budget “directionless” and “meandering”.
Coming down heavily on it, Mitra said the Budget lacked vision and that there was “nothing in it” for the common man.
“We are studying the fine print. But, our first impression says that the Budget is directionless, meandering and lacks vision. There is nothing in it for the common man and also for West Bengal,” he said at the State secretariat today.
The TMC too came down heavily criticising the Budget as “hopeless”. The party web site in a point wise rebuttal pointed out that Arun Jaitley has in his speech not detailed out the changes in the FDI policy.
“It is shrouded in an annexure and opens up 100% FDI in many sectors. Why can’t the Government be transparent,” the party said adding that no clear outline has been mentioned for job creation.
It also blamed the government of not coming out in any major tax reforms to benefit the middle class.
The party has also blamed the Centre for not providing funds to the State for various social sector schemes.
