The Budget session of Parliament will begin on January 29 and the Union Budget will be presented on February 1. The Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs has recommended the dates of the Budget session to the President.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar told reporters that the first phase of the session will be held from January 29 to February 9. After a recess for about one month, the House will meet again on March 5 and the second phase will continue till April 6.
The Minister also said the Winter session, which concluded here on Friday, was a successful one. He said 14 Bills were introduced in the Lok Sabha during the session.
The Lok Sabha passed 13 Bills and the the Upper House passed nine Bills during the session. Both the the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha passed 13 Bills together.
Leader of the Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad said the Winter session may have been one of the shortest sessions in the history of Parliament.
He said that for no particular reason, the Centre cut short the days of sitting and alleged that it was scared of debating corruption allegations against leaders of the BJP. He added that it would have been the first time that the Winter session and the Budget session are being held in the same month.
