As a part of the initiatives for Indian Railways per the Union Budget announcement on Wednesday, the bidding process for the redevelopment of 23 A1 and A category stations would begin in about a week, according to railway officials.
DK Sharma, General Manager, Central Railway said: “The process is being personally monitored by the PM and the Railway Minister. An MOU has been signed by the Rail Ministry with Ministry of Urban Development to help integrate SMART cities projects with station redevelopment projects.”
In all, a total of 25 stations will be redeveloped in FY18, once the bids are received. Of these, three stations are under the Central Railway (Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, Thane and Pune) and four in Western Railway — Mumbai Central, Bandra Terminus, Borivali, and Indore.
The public private partnership model is expected to be adopted.
