Four girls scored 99.99 percentile, the highest score from among the girls. All of them are engineering students in their final year from Karnataka, Odisha, Delhi and UP. In all 255 girls and 1,640 boys scored more than 99 percentile.

“CAT 2012 is significant as there is an increase in registrations, for the first time since moving to a computer-based testing platform. The growth in registrations is all encompassing – cutting across the categories and gender.

“The number of girls registering and appearing for the test showed a considerable uptrend. This development might be seen as a response to the gender diversity in classrooms being sought by most IIMs.

“In addition, candidates from lesser privileged sections of the society are also registering in increasing numbers and excelling in the test,” said Debashis Chatterjee, Director, IIM Kozhikode.
