The Central Electricity Regulatory Commission has directed the Power System Operation Corporation Ltd (a wholly owned subsidiary of the public sector Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd) to investigate the Northern grid failure on July 30 and 31.
In a suo motu order dated August 1, the Commission has described the grid failure as “alarming”.
The grid failure of such large magnitude on two consecutive days is “alarming and needs to be investigated in detail,” CERC has said.
It has directed both the CEO of POSOCO and the Chairman and Managing Director of Power Grid Corporation to investigate into the incidence of grid failure and “submit a report within a week from the date of issue of this order.”
The Commission has said that the report “shall include”: antecedent conditions of frequency, inter-regional and inter-state line flow, voltages at inter-state and inter-regional point, conditions of outage at inter-regional and inter-state lines prior to disturbance, report of the sequence of event recorder maintained by the regional load despatch centres and disturbance recorder reports and any other associated reports.
