The Union Government will rank States in terms of ease of doing business and publish the list by June-July to encourage State Governments to ease the process , said Amitabh Kant, Secretary, Department of Industrial Policy and Promotions, Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
Addressing a public session on Entrepreneurship - Enabling Make in India, over a video conferencing facility, organised here by the Confederation of Indian Industry, Kant said the Centre had identified 98 key parameters which it has shared with State Governments for necessary action by May. It plans to strictly evaluate States based on the breakthrough achieved in the suggested areas and rank them accordingly.
He said by May end, all States have to comply with these 98 points. By July, “we will name and shame the States by ranking them and publishing it. That way, there will be competition among the States, to become business-friendly,” he added.
He said the Centre is drafting a new foreign trade policy.
As far as the FDI is concerned, “we have opened up FDI in Defence up to 49 per cent. More sectors will be opened up soon”, he said, adding the foreign investment will see record levels this fiscal as the inflows are already logging over 35 per cent growth till now, as compared to previous year’s figures.
