The Central Electricity Regulatory Commission on Tuesday admitted two petitions filed by Anil Ambani-promoted Reliance Power.
The petitions filed by the private power producer seek revision of electricity rates to be produced from Sasan Ultra Mega Power Project.
In one petition, Reliance Power is seeking compensation due to change in law during operation period. And in the second plea, it seeks compensation for change in law during construction.
In similar cases, Tata Power had won a major relief on Monday after the electricity regulator allowed it to increase the tariff for power generated from its 4,000-MW Mundra plant.
Allowing the hike, the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission has ordered that a committee be set up to work out the price increase and decide the compensatory package. The committee is to submit its report by May 15.
This is the second such decision by the CERC allowing projects fired on imported coal to increase tariffs, as fuel prices have risen. On April 2, the regulator had allowed a similar hike for Adani Power’s 4,620-MW Mundra plant.
