Finance Minister P. Chidambaram on Tuesday will interact with the Chief Commissioners and Directors General of Central Excise and Customs.
This will be Chidambaram’s first interaction with the top brass in the administrative machinery on indirect taxes after he assumed charge of finance portfolio on August 1.
The conference will focus mainly on ensuring clarity in indirect tax laws, a stable tax regime, a non-adversarial tax administration, a fair mechanism for dispute resolution and an independent judiciary.
It will cover the revenue performance including projection of revenue for the current year and reasons in shortfall, if any; and steps taken by the departments to promote manufacturing and export sector by providing a stable tax regime.
Chidambaram is also slated to meet the Chief Commissioners of Income-Tax later this week.
