CII to submit report on barriers to internal trade early next year

Issues such as lack of proper road infrastructure, varied taxation rates, and longer turnaround time of ships and trucks are becoming major “impediments” to internal trade, industry body CII has said.

According to Sanjay Budhia, Chairman, CII National Committee on Exports and Imports, these challenges before domestic trade would ultimately impact India’s exports.

Demanding more benefits for special economic zones, Budhia said SEZs should also get incentives available under the focus market scheme and focus product scheme to boost export.

CII will early next year submit a report on the barriers to internal trade and ways to promote export.

The industry body has been organising meetings with the stakeholders of the Southern, Northern, Eastern and Western regions to discuss these concerns and a summary of these meetings would be incorporated in the report.
