A group of citizens, consisting of academics, artists, lawyers and others, have asked the Standing Committee of Parliament on the Lokpal Bill to solicit views from a wide range of groups and individuals to enact the ‘best possible legislation’.
In a statement issued here on Wednesday, 90 citizens, including former National Commission of Women Chairperson, Ms Mohini Giri, Justice Mr B. G Kolse Patil, senior lawyer Mr Rajiv Dhavan and Admiral Vishnu Bhagwat, said views of all those representing marginalised groups, who have been heard not so far, must be incorporated into the legislation.
While commending Mr Anna Hazare for his anti-graft crusade, they said “no single group should claim that its members alone have the best legislative prescription for eradicating corruption.”
They flayed the “ham-handed” UPA Government for being associated with unprecedented levels of corruption. The group also appealed to all political parties to come out with a clear unambiguous statement on the issue of the Lokpal.
