CITU said that its affiliated unions in all coal mines and establishments in the country organised a two-hour work stoppage and demonstration to protest against "handing over of the coal mines to private corporates".
CITU said it resented the manner in which the proposed joint strike call in coal industry on was postponed by some of the coal workers' federations on the basis of assurance of the Joint Secretary of Coal Ministry for discussion with the Government.
The Union Government was in the process of implementing privatisation of some of the mines through an Ordinance and auction route, CITU said.
CITU-led All India Coal Workers' Federation has refused to endorse the conclusions of the meeting between the other federations and the ministry officials last week.
