Coal India has achieved 93 per cent of its output target during April-November 2012, the nodal Coal Ministry said in a statement.
This indicates a growth of 6.4 per cent over the corresponding period of the previous year.
Production target for 2012-13 has been set 7 per cent higher at 578.10 million tonnes against the actual production of about 540 mt in 2011-12.
“As against this, the actual production during April-November 2012 has been 330.61 mt, which is about 93 per cent of the target for this period,” the statement said.
Coal offtake
At the same time, coal offtake during April-November, 2012 has been nearly 360 mt touching 95 per cent of the target and showing a growth of 7.8 per cent over the corresponding period of the previous year.
The target for coal offtake for 2012-13 has been set at 585.60 mt.
The Government said that coal offtake by power producers during April-November from Coal India Ltd and Singareni Collieries Co. Ltd has been about 237 mt indicating an achievement of 92 per cent of the target and a growth of 12 per cent over the corresponding period of the previous year.
Joint venture by NLC
The Government has given its go-ahead to Neyveli Lignite Corporation to seal a joint venture with UPRVUNL for setting up a coal-based thermal power plant — 1,980 MW Ghatampur Thermal Power Plant — in Uttar Pradesh.
The project is expected to cost Rs 14,858 crore. The investment proposal is under the consideration of Government.
Fuel supply pacts
The Coal Ministry said that Fuel Supply Agreements (FSAs) have been made mandatory and Coal India, after resolving the pending issues with power producers, have already signed 35 FSAs out of 114 and the balance are expected to be completed shortly.
