The State-run Coal India Ltd (CIL) registered around 6 per cent growth in production at 355 million tonnes (MT) in the April-January period of current fiscal, over the same period last fiscal.
The company, which accounts for over 80 per cent of total domestic coal production, had produced 335.8 MT in April-January last fiscal, according to the Coal Ministry data.
Coal India registered a growth of eight per cent in supply and 5.8 per cent expansion in production during the period this fiscal, the data showed.
The coal miner supplied 380 MT in April-January this fiscal against 351 MT in the same period of FY’12.
The production of CIL in January was up by 4 per cent at 46.4 MT against 44.6 MT in the same month in 2012.
State-owned Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) produced 42 MT of coal in the first 10 months of the current fiscal, registering a growth of about 4 per cent.
Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) produced 20.92 MT of lignite from April to January, against 19.7 MT over the corresponding period in the last fiscal.
NLC produced 2.4 million tonnes of lignite in January 2013 compared to 2.22 million tonnes during January 2012, marking a growth of 8.3 per cent on year-on-year basis.
In the last fiscal, CIL produced 435.84 MT coal, missing the revised production target of 447 MT.
CIL targets 464 MT coal production in this fiscal.
