The All-India Consumer Price Index numbers for agricultural and rural labourers (base: 1986-87=100) for January 2012, remained stationary. It stood at 618 points for farm labourers and 619 points for rural workers.
A total of 14 States recorded an increase between 1 to 5 points for farm labourers, while five States posted a decrease between 2 and 12 points, according to a Labour Ministry release. In one State, it remained stationary.
Among the States, Maharashtra topped the index with with 690 points while Himachal Pradesh stood at the bottom with 514 points.
West Bengal clocked the highest decrease of 12 and 11 points, respectively, for agricultural and rural labourers, respectively, mainly due to decrease in the prices of rice and vegetables & fruits.
In case of rural labourers, 14 States recorded an increase between 1 to 5 points, while six States saw a fall of between 1 and 11 points. Once again, Maharashtra was at the top with 683 points, while Tripura was at the bottom with 534 points.
