The All-India Consumer Price Index (CPI) for agricultural and rural labourers for April 2012 (base: 1986-87=100) shot up by 8 points each to 633 and 634, respectively.
The point-to-point inflation based on the index for agricultural labour rose to 7.84 per cent in April from 6.84 per cent in March. For rural labour, it increased to 8.01 per cent from 7.19 per cent last month.
Inflation based on the food index of CPI for agriculture and rural labour stood at 5.30 per cent and 5.64 per cent, respectively, during April.
While the index for farm labour increased between one and 18 points in all the 20 states, the rise was highest in Punjab with 711 points, while Himachal Pradesh stood at the bottom at 523 points, according to a Labour Ministry release here on Monday.
For rural labour, the index saw a rise between two and 16 points in all the states, with Punjab once again on the top with 707 points and Himachal Pradesh at the bottom with 545 points.
The rise in Punjab was mainly owing to the increase in prices of wheat atta, vanaspati, milk, onion, vegetables & fruits, gur and washing soap.
