Despite the fear of slowdown, the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR) recorded significant growth in job creation in July compared with the same period last year. These are the findings of a study by the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham).
With a share of 76 per cent in total job creation, tier I cities emerged as the most lucrative employment destinations, while tier II and tier III cities got a meagre 12 per cent share each, the study said.
“As per our projections, a healthy growth in employment generation of 15 to 20 per cent is expected this year,” said Mr D.S Rawat, Secretary General, Assocham.
Job estimate
An estimated 84,254 jobs were generated in tier I cities during the said period. Among these Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai emerged on top with 18.5 per cent, 12.6 per cent, 10.5 per cent and 7.5 per cent share, respectively.
Tier II and III cities registered a growth rate of 207.5 per cent and 607.6 per cent, respectively, in July 2011 over July 2010. About 13,776 job opportunities came up in tier II cities and 12,768 from tier III cities.
The study analysed trends in job openings in India among 56 major Indian cities across 32 sectors from a sample of 1.1 lakh job opportunities. The IT sector generated the maximum number of jobs with 36.3 per cent share, it said.
