The Finance Ministry has imposed definitive anti-dumping duty on caustic soda imports from China and South Korea.

This move follows recommendation of the Designated Authority in the Commerce Ministry in its sunset review investigations.

Caustic soda is mainly used in the manufacture of pulp and paper, newsprint, viscose yarn, staple fibre, aluminium, cotton, textiles, toilet and laundry soaps, detergents, dyestuffs, drugs and pharmaceuticals, petroleum refining etc.

Alkali Manufacturers' Association of India (AMAI) had filed the petition seeking sunset review investigations on caustic soda imports from China and South Korea.

The anti-dumping duty ranged from 'nil' to $ 48.39 per dry tonne depending on the producer and country of export (China or South Korea.).
