Eye institute gets Rs 3-cr grant

Thadikonda Research Foundation of Frederick, US, has pledged a donation of Rs 3 crore towards strengthening Education and Training Centre on the Hyderabad campus of L V Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI).

This centre trains eye care personnel from all over the world.

Dr Krupakar Thadikonda, Chair of Thadikonda Research Foundation, and Dr Gullapalli N Rao, Chair of L V Prasad Eye Institute, signed an MOU to this effect.

The centre will be named Mark Nathaniel Thadikonda and Vijayamma Nannepaga Ophthalmic Education Centre.

Dr Thadikonda said: “It is a great pleasure for our foundation to join hands with this world famous institute.”

Dr. Rao said: “This grant boosts our education efforts significantly as we are trying to help enhance quality of eye care across the entire developing world with high standards of training of professionals from around the world.”

The Education and Training Centre is on the Kallam Anji Reddy Campus.

L V Prasad Eye Institute is a tertiary eye care centre and a World Health Organization collaborating centre for the prevention of blindness in the region. The institute is also a major education and training centre for ophthalmologists and other eye care professionals.

L V Prasad Eye Institute has been providing quality eye care through its network of tertiary centres at Hyderabad, Bhubaneswar, Vishakapatnam and Vijayawada and the nine secondary centres and 70 primary centres in rural Andhra Pradesh for the last 24 years.
