An all-party meeting held here on Monday resolved that the piled-up and decaying garbage mounds in various parts of the city be taken to sparsely populated areas on the outskirts of the city for proper disposal. Convened by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, the meeting also decided that the movement of garbage-laden trucks begin within the next 10 days’ time. The matter had acquired urgent attention after attempts of the administration to take laden lorries into the Vilappilasala solid waste treatment plant failed due to protests. A follow-up bid to move them into unused quarries for being dumped also had invited the wrath of the public.
