Nearly three weeks after a fire broke out in the basement of the seven-storey Annexe Building at the multi-speciality AMRI Hospital's Dhakuria unit claiming over 90 lives, smoke was seen billowing out of the building on Thursday morning.
The smoke was caused by a leakage of helium gas from an MRI machine at the hospital. The situation was soon brought under control by fire brigade personnel.
AMRI Hospital is jointly promoted by the Rs 3,500-crore FMCG major Emami and city-based real estate major Shrachi Group.
In an official statement issued to the media, AMRI Hospitals Pvt. Ltd said that the “non-hazardous” helium gas came out from an MRI machine located in the Annexe I Building at AMRI. The building has been sealed and is non-operational.
“Helium is a non-hazardous gas and the incident is not liable to put any life at risk in the neighbouring areas. There was no fire,” the statement said.
