After Google Buzz, it is the turn of Wave to go silent. Google has announced the countdown for closure of this online collaboration that failed to catch the imagination of users. Wave will be turned off completely on April 30, 2012, a little over three years since its birth in March 2009.

Though it announced its intention to close this virtual collaborative option, Google has come up with a specific roadmap for its closure.

“As of January 31, 2012, all waves will be in read-only format. You will be able to continue exporting individual waves using the existing PDF export feature until the Google Wave service is turned off. We encourage you to export any important data before April 30, 2012, Google Wave team advises the Wave community.

Ardent Wave users can look towards open source projects such as Apache Wave and Walkaround that let users to export all their Wave content.

You can, of course, do this only till April 30, 2012, the day when Google winds up yet another experiment it launched to face competition from social network sites.’’
