After obtaining all the requisite clearances, the Government is all set to reintroduce on Monday the Constitution Amendment Bill for Goods & Services Tax (GST).
“The Bill will be introduced in the Lok Sabha,” a Government source said. The buzz is that if the Bill is not sent to the Parliamentary Standing Committee, then it could get passed in the Lok Sabha by Tuesday. Since this is a Constitutional amendment, it will require two-third majority in the House for passage. The BJP-led NDA has 336 members in the Lok Sabha. The Congress is also likely to support the Bill, as it had drafted the Bill first.
December 23 is the last day of the Winter session, which means the Bill will have to wait till Budget session to get approval from the Upper House.
