To marginally ease the burden of higher LPG and kerosene prices, the Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry on Wednesday deferred hiking State-specific costs (SSC) till a review was done with the States. The SSC was announced by the UPA Government in 2012.
“The reduction in domestic LPG and PDS kerosene retail selling prices, wherever applicable, will remain in force till the review of the SSC scheme is carried out by the Government,” the Ministry said in a statement here on Wednesday.
In July 2012, the UPA Government introduced SSC to recover levies from States imposing such taxes. This had led to an increase in domestic LPG and PDS kerosene prices in some States, while in some the prices had come down.
If implemented now, domestic LPG prices would have gone up by ₹4.14 a cylinder in Kerala, ₹3.17 in Karnataka, ₹ 5.16 in Madhya Pradesh and 91 paise in Uttar Pradesh.
The move comes after prices of non-subsidised domestic LPG cylinders were raised by ₹16.50 a cylinder on Tuesday.
