The Government hopes to resolve the iron ore mining issue by October end or early November.
At the same time, it also hopes to bring a note before the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs soon for residual stake sale in Hindustan Zinc and Balco, Mines Minister Dinsha Patel today said.
He said that consultation for filing a review petition in the Supreme Court is going on. Through the petition, the Government will plead the apex court to lift the ban on iron ore mining in Goa.
He said that the Government intends to export more iron ore so that it can help in bridging the current account deficit.
The Finance Ministry has already indicated that it is for lowering the export duty on iron ore. On Monday, the Ministry had also said that all legal hurdles for residual stake sale in Hindustan Zinc and Balco have been cleared.
When asked about this, Patel said that the Mines Ministry is doing extensive consultation before moving a note to CCEA. “We do not want any hurdles for the sale,’’ he added.
