The Government is still working out a target for renewable energy generation capacity addition for the 2015-16 fiscal, even though it has already announced a long-term target of 175 GW by 2022.
“We are still working on the target for this year. But I think the planning phase is more important. We are a Government that doesn’t believe in setting ambitious targets and not achieving it. To achieve those targets, planning has to be thorough,” the Power, Coal and New and Renewable Energy Minister, Piyush Goyal, said on Monday.
Mobile science labs
Goyal was flagging of three mobile science labs for the underprivileged students in rural India. The labs are funded by NTPC’s corporate social responsibility fund and will be supported by the Agastya International Foundation.
The mobile science labs are fitted with LCD TVs and carry working science models. Each mobile science lab will cover a set of about 20 schools around NTPC project generating about 16,000 student exposures per year.
More than 1,40,000 student exposure will be generated in three years enhancing the level of curiosity and creativity among children. Instructors for mobile science lab will be from neighborhood community.
Meanwhile, Goyal also said that he has been in contact with the Power Grid Corporation of India officials to provide any assistance required to the earthquake stricken country of Nepal.
