The Centre is negotiating with the World Bank to set up a CSR Institute in the country. A decision on this is likely soon, according to D.R.S. Choudhary, Secretary, Steel.
By setting up such an institute, the Government will seek to engage various private sector entities in corporate social responsibility initiatives.
The country has many examples of CSR initiatives including those of the Tatas and NMDC. Some of these initiatives were ahead of their time, he said.
