The GST Council will do well to quickly eliminate the 28 per cent tax slab, especially for general goods, Gopal Jiwarajka, President, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) has said.
"The 28 per cent tax slab should be eliminated. The sooner it is done for general goods, it will help the cause of GST," Jiwarajka said at a National Council on GST, organised by PHDCCI here on Saturday.
Jiwarajka called for elimination of "reverse charge" rather than defer it. He also maintained that anti-profiteering provisions in GST law are draconian in nature.
PHDCCI President underscored the need for a "surgical strike" on the problems in GST implementation rather than address them on a "piecemeal" basis.
This is required so that GST does not become a "Gone Sour Tax" instead of evolving into a "Growth Oriented Simple Tax".
