GTM Research, which tracks developments in renewable energy industry worldwide, has said that it views “the new emphasis on extremely large projects with some scepticism due to the technical and financial risks involved.”
In an emailed response to Business Line, Adam James, Solar Analyst with GTM Research, noted that the “increased ambition and commitment” to development of the solar industry in India at the highest level of politics and industry is a positive development, but said that “the potential trouble lies in how these commitments are structured and executed.”
GTM Research is the research arm of Greentech Media, a US-based company that provides analytical content on renewable energy and climate.
“Despite those concerns, we do have India slated to become one of the top five global markets for PV out to 2020,” Adam said.
