Kolkata witnessed nine per cent growth in hiring in February compared with January this year, a report by Naukri.com said. IT and BPO sectors were the largest contributors to this growth in hiring in the city with five per cent and two per cent growth respectively over January.
According to the report, hiring activity in Kolkata grew 15 per cent in February this year, compared with the year-ago period. Pharmaceuticals sector also witnessed a positive hiring trend consecutively for the last two months.
Other three metros equally saw positive hiring in February.
“There are some signs of hiring picking up but it is too early to call it a turnaround. Hopefully, the worst is now behind us and things will start improving from here on,” Hitesh Oberoi, Managing Director and CEO, Info Edge India, was quoted saying. Info Edge India owns Naukri.com.
The report stated that the highest demand was for professionals in HR, software services and accounts with nine per cent, eight per cent and seven per cent increase in hiring respectively.
Banking, oil and gas, telecom and insurance sectors, however, saw decline in hiring levels. Banking sector witnessed 13 per cent dip employment generation in February over January.
