The West Bengal Government on Wednesday asked Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services Ltd (IL&FS) to prepare a ‘pre-feasibility study’ for setting up a ropeway from Old Digha to New Digha.

Digha is the State’s popular seaside travel destination.

“We have requested the ILF&S to start a pre-feasibility study in this regard. The study is to examine things starting from availability of land to safety measures,” said Mr Debasis Sen, Chairman, West Bengal Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (HIDCO).

Mr Sen pointed out that the 7.5-km-long proposed ropeway was not only viewed as a tourist attraction but also as an urban transportation option, which would eventually take the load off the roads.
